Original Russian icon belonging to the Tzarist epoch. It was hand painted by the master iconographers of the Golden Ring of Moscow and re-painted in the RTS laboratories in Moscow, by contemporary masters of iconographers. George was a soldier born towards the end of the III century AD in Cappadocia and raised as a Christian by the widowed mother. During the Diocletian empire there was a persecution of the Christians in which he decided not to take part confessing his faith. The countless tortures failed to weaken the twenty-year-old George, instead they did convert some of those who were witnesses of his confession, including Empress Alexandra, better than Diocletian. After being chased, George was beheaded. St. George is recognized as a martyr and a miracle worker, and also for rescuing a princess and a city from a reptile. This creature lived in the lake near Silene and made it difficult for the inhabitants to draw water, and terrorized the city. Being pagan citizens offered the young daughter of the king in sacrifice but St. George saved her, converting the whole city to the Christian faith. The icon is sized 32,7x26 cm and is accompanied by a custody and certificate of originality.
