Saint Nicholas of Myra is remembered for his position against the heretic bishop Arius. He was excommunicated and incarcerated, but Jesus and the Holy Virgin set him free and gave him the episcopal dignity.
His iconography depicts him a bust-size in his bishop's robes, wrapped in an omophorion decorated with crosses, a Gospel in his hands.
Some features of St. Nicholas, like his expression of firmness and his high forehead, create the image of a defender against heresies and exorcists.
Icon from Moscow, painted in the 19th century with egg tempera on a lime wood hardboard, delivered in an elegant case with export report.
