Christmas ball 100 mm in green blown glass with white and green beads.Handmade Christmas ball in green blown glass with white and green beads.The origin of Christmas balls dates back to the mid-nineteenth century, when a drought caused a village in northern France to run out of the apples they used to adorn Christmas trees with. A local glassblower came up with the idea of making coloured glass balls to replace the apples and not deprive children of the joy of having a beautifully decorated Christmas tree.
