The scene depicts Mary and the Baby Jesus seated on the donkey, laden with water jars and a basket, while Saint Joseph, standing with his staff, accompanies their journey.
The figures are entirely modelled in terracotta with complete bodies and subsequently dressed in fabrics and small decorative elements, following a technique different from the traditional Nativity. Facial features and poses are carefully finished, with details such as expressions, facial folds and body tensions that evoke real-life scenes.
The inspiration comes from the tradition of the ancient Arab world, personally reinterpreted through costume, gestures and setting.
Each figure captures a specific moment, suggesting a story through glances and movement. The artisanal workmanship makes every piece slightly different from the others.
Made in the Angela Tripi atelier, where artists maintain this technique with attention to detail and faithful rendering of the figures.
