The scene evokes one of the most characteristic trades of the Neapolitan Nativity Scene and is enriched with numerous details, including metal tools and the forge used to heat the material before working. The theatrical effect is enhanced by an electric motion, mains-powered, that reproduces the blacksmith's working gesture; simultaneously a flickering light in the forge simulates a lit fire, making the composition more realistic.
