Bagpiper for Nativity Scene by Dellarte Ceramiche, 20 cm, hand-painted figurine.
This bagpiper, with his instrument held between his arms and his face marked by a sweet expression of concentration, represents one of the most beloved characters of the Nativity Scene tradition. The tilted posture, hat, and warm colours of the attire evoke the typical atmosphere of street musicians announcing Christmas in Italian villages.
The figurine is crafted in Faenza ceramic, shaped using the ancient slip technique, a mixture of liquid clay poured into plaster molds to achieve the desired form. After the first firing at 1000°C, the piece is hand-decorated with non-toxic and bright glazes, then immersed in clear glaze and subjected to a second firing at 920°C. The 10% pure gold finish, applied with a brush and fired at 720°C, enriches every detail.
This creation bears the signature of Dellarte Ceramiche, a family-run workshop founded over twenty years ago by Paola Zaghi, a former Art History and painting design professor. With great passion and a recognisable style, Paola brings to life objects that blend beauty, tradition, and craftsmanship.
Each figurine thus becomes a small tale woven with gestures, emotions, and care.
