Kneeling Magi by Dellarte Ceramics, hand-painted, 20 cm.
This statue of one of the Wise Men, depicted kneeling while offering incense, is crafted from fine Faenza ceramic and entirely hand-painted.
This figurine is part of a 10-piece Nativity set, where each character, while sharing the same artisanal style, boasts unique chromatic variations. The purple cloak, adorned with golden details, stands out for the meticulous colour application.
The crafting process follows a complex artisanal procedure, starting with the pouring of liquid clay, known as slip, into plaster molds to create raw shapes. After drying and an initial firing at 1000°C, colouring with non-toxic glazes takes place. The piece is then immersed in clear glaze, a translucent glassy coating that enhances the decorations, followed by a second firing at 920°C. Precious details, like the pure 10% gold finishings, are hand-applied and fixed with a third and final firing at 720°C.
This creation is signed by Dellarte Ceramics, a family-run company active for over 20 years. Founded by Paola Zaghi, an Art History and Painting Design professor, the company emerged from the desire to blend knowledge of artistic heritage with the aspiration to shape unique objects reflecting her personality and artistic sensitivity.
