The rhizome of the Nardo can be crushed and distilled in an intense aromatic amber essential oil, which is very thick called Nardo oil, used as a perfume (which however has an aromatic, medicinal essence) and is one of the 11 herbs used as an incense in the Temple of Jerusalem . The most ancient use we know, comes from amphoras, found in Egyptian tombs. This unguent was used by the Hebrew populations at the time of Moses. It was considered a luxury in Ancient Egypt, the East and Rome, where it was the main ingredient of the nardinium perfumes.
