The Sacred Mountains of Piedmont are a world heritage site. Places of worship, popular piety and art. Oases of meditation, centres of ancient culture. They tell a long story, which began in the first half of the 15th century. The documentary traces a devotional, historical and naturalistic route through the seven Sacred Mountains of Piedmont: Varallo Sesia, Serralunga di Crea, Orta San Giulio, Oropa, Ghiffa, Domodossola and Valperga. Piedmont's Sacred Mounts are one of the new tourist destinations of the 21st century. Since UNESCO included them in its protected cultural heritage list in 2003, they have been enjoying a new lease of life. From public bodies to the local church, from pilgrims to tourists, it is a continuous rediscovery of art, nature and popular piety.
