The intensely expressive face conveys the ineffable reality of God made man, a concept found in all paintings depicting Christ Pantocrator over the centuries. Typical features include helmet-like hair parted in the middle, a spacious forehead, well-defined eyebrow arches, large pensive eyes, a long and thoughtful nasal septum, red lips closed in wise silence, and slightly deformed ears symbolising a listening posture.
