Antique Russian icon, Dormition of the Virgin Mary, mid-19th century. Antique icon of the mid-19th century from Moscow, painted on a thick wood board of 22x17.5 cm, representing the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, the last of the Twelve Byzantine Feasts. In this representation Jesus comes on Earth with angels to receive Mary's soul, represented as a swaddled girl. At Christ's feet, lies Mary's body, adored by the Apostles. On the background we can see Jerusalem.
