2 - Our Lady of Smolensk
The icon of the Mother of God of Smolensk was taken to Constantinople from Jerusalem in 1046. When Anna, the daughter of the emperor Constantine Monomachos, married the prince of Cernigov, Vsevolod, Constantine blessed her with this icon.
During the XII century the son of Vsevolod and Anna, Vladimir Monomachos, brought the icon to Smolensk; it was then that it got the name Smolenskaya.
The first miracle attributed to the icon happened in 1237, when the citizens of Smolensk fought and won against the can Batyi after having prayed in front of the Sacred Image.
In 1812, during Napoleon's invasion, the Russian army took the Miraculous Icon with them. Before the battle of Borodino, the Icon was taken to every member of the army so that it could protect Russia from the enemy and help them to win the battle.
It belongs to the type of icons 'Odighitria'.
3 - Mother of God Arabetskaya,
This is one of the most ancient Russian icons. There is no information about the time and the place of its apparition.
Some people think its glorification date back to the beginning of the IV century. Other people believe that its denomination, Arabetskaya, refers to a precedent stage, like the I century A.D.
4 - The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist.
John the Baptist was faithful to his mission until the last moment. King Herod Antipas and his wife Herodias didn't allow the Baptist to continue denouncing their transgression of the law.
He was arrested and imprisoned in Machaerus, on the eastern side of the Dead Sea, and then beheaded by a guard because of a caprice of Salome, Herodias' daughter.
John is the last and the greatest of all prophets. The refusal and the death of the Baptist, a mere object in the hands of the powerful, represent the refusal and the death of Jesus.
On the outer edges are represented the patron saints of the client.
