Mother of God "The Joy of all who sorrow", antique Russian icon with metallic riza, 35x30 cm. Original antique Russian icon from the church of Saint Nicholas in Tolmachi (Moscow), representing the miraculous icon of the Mother of God "The Joy of all who sorrow". In the 18th century the iconography of the Mother of God "The Joy of all who sorrow" knows many variants influenced by several catholic iconographic elements. The common feature in all the variants is the image of "all who sorrow", adressing their prayers to the Mother of God, their protectress and patroness. The image is surrounded by light, a sign from the Book of Revelation.
