Hand-painted Byzantine-style Totus Tuus icon, 12.2x9.1 in.
Painted in Romania by skilled Romanian iconographers working in the Byzantine iconographic tradition, this work reproduces the Maria Mater Ecclesiae mosaic and bears the motto of Saint John Paul II, "Totus Tuus".
The composition shows the Virgin Mary crowned and holding the Child Jesus; both are depicted with halos and gold leaf crowns, while the Child makes the gesture of blessing. The gilded background enhances the symbolism typical of Byzantine iconography.
The icon depicts the "Maria Mater Ecclesiae" mosaic, accompanied by the Latin inscription "Totus Tuus", an expression of total consecration to the Virgin Mary, which Saint John Paul II chose as the motto of his pontificate.
Entirely hand-painted, the icon is delivered in a red velvet case with a white satin lining to protect it during transport and storage.
