Hand-painted icon, Holy Family and Holy Trinity, 15.7x11.8 in.
This icon was hand-painted in Romania by Romanian iconographers specialised in the Byzantine iconographic tradition.
The lower register depicts Saint Joseph in garments of beige and light blue, the Virgin Mary with a red mantle and blue robe, and the Child Jesus. In the upper register the Holy Trinity is represented by the three angels gathered around the table and the cup, symbolising the mystery of trinitarian love, set against a background and halos gilded with gold leaf and inscribed with sacred texts.
The composition follows the traditional model inspired by the work executed by Andrei Rublev around 1422, where Abraham's tent and the temple serve as iconographic references of the Byzantine tradition, uniting the Holy Family and the mystery of the Holy Trinity within a single depiction.
Entirely hand-painted, the icon is supplied in a red velvet presentation box with a white satin-lined interior for protection during transport and storage.
