Hand-painted icon of Saint Francis, medieval, antique style, 7.9x5.9 in.

Hand-painted icon with an actual painted surface of 7.1x5.5 in, made in Romania by local iconographers specialised in the Byzantine iconographic tradition and inspired by the celebrated painting attributed to Cimabue.

Saint Francis is depicted wearing the habit of the Order of Friars Minor, holding the book of the Holy Scriptures, bearing the stigmata and with a halo executed in gold leaf, elements that characterise his traditional iconography.

The antiqued finish evokes the appearance of medieval panel paintings and recalls the artistic features of the work attributed to Cimabue; the entire piece is crafted by hand.

The icon is supplied in a red velvet presentation box with a white satin-lined interior to ensure protection during transport and storage.
