This icon is painted by hand and measures 8.7x7.1 in. It was produced in Romania by specialised Romanian iconographers following the Byzantine iconographic tradition, as an antique-style reproduction of the famous Salus Populi Romani.
The composition depicts the Virgin Mary holding the Child Jesus, both enriched with gold leaf halos; the Child holds the book of the Holy Scriptures and makes the sign of blessing.
The work faithfully recalls the venerable image preserved in the Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome, one of the oldest Marian representations in Christianity and an object of devotion for centuries.
Entirely hand-painted, the icon is delivered in a red velvet case with a white satin interior to protect it during transport and storage.
