Our Lady of Good Counsel icon, Romania, hand‑painted on wood, 10x8 in.
This Romanian icon of Our Lady of Good Counsel is entirely hand‑painted on a wooden panel following the Byzantine iconographic tradition. The image shows the Virgin Mary receiving the Infant Jesus, their faces close in a gesture of intimate sweetness typical of Eastern sacred art.
The devotion to Our Lady of Good Counsel gained particular diffusion during the pontificate of Leo XIII, who in 1884 officially recognised the liturgical feast and the white scapular of Mater Boni Consilii, granting indulgences. From that moment the devotion spread in many parts of the world thanks to the work of the Augustinians and to the pilgrims who, over the centuries, have visited the Sanctuary of Genazzano, spreading the image as a sign of faith.
The icon is characterised by delicate yet well‑defined tones that create an atmosphere of recollection and contemplation; the halos bear the traditional references that emphasise their devotional meaning.
The icon is supplied in a red case designed to protect it during transport and storage and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the iconographer.
