This icon is painted by hand on a wood panel following the Byzantine iconographic tradition, with gold leaf applied to the background to lend light and solemnity to the image. It is based on an ancient model rediscovered in 1919 in the depositories of the Spaso‑Preobrazhenskij Monastery in Yaroslavl and subsequently restored through careful cleaning, which clarified the original composition venerated in Russia between the 11th and 13th centuries.
The Mother of God is depicted full face, with her hands raised in the orans (prayer) posture. On her chest is a medallion bearing the image of Christ Emmanuel, who blesses with his right hand and holds a scroll in his left, recalling the prophecy of Isaiah: “The Lord himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel”.
The archangels Michael and Gabriel appear at the sides, completing the iconographic composition.
The icon is delivered in an elegant red velvet case and is accompanied by an illustrated booklet explaining its historical and spiritual meaning.
