The Holy Family is depicted with golden halos in a typical Byzantin style.
The main features of this icon are the craquelure and the jagged edges, both made by hand with specific techniques. The craquelure is obtained by applying not one, but two layers of plaster, one horizontally and the second vertically. While drying, the bottom layer stars to crack and create small crevices on the surface. Besides, the gauze is only applied on the front of the wooden board and the extra plaster is cut off the edges with a knife, creating this unique finish.
