Who Wears the Dalmatic and When?

The dalmatic is the proper vestment of the deacon, who wears it over the alb and the deacon’s stole, which is worn diagonally from the left shoulder across the body. It may be worn during regular liturgical celebrations and is especially appropriate for solemn liturgies, including ordinations, weddings, Baptisms, and major feast days.

The dalmatic is also worn by deacons assisting at particularly solemn Masses, emphasizing their specific ministry and role within the liturgical celebration.
