Antique Russian icon of the Twelve Great Feasts, 19th century, 40x30 cm. Russian icon of the 19th century depicting the 12 Great Feasts of the liturgical year, displayed around Easter representation, a central scene regrouping different elements translating the theological and biblical message of Easter (Harrowing of Hell, Procession of the Blessed to Heaven, Christ's resurrection from the grave, Christ appears on the shore of Lake Tiberias). The Great Feasts are: the Nativity of the Theotokos, the Presentation of the Theotokos, the Annunciation, the Nativity of Christ, the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple, the Baptism of Christ, the Entry into Jerusalem, the Transfiguration of Jesus, the Exaltation of the Cross, the Holy Trinity of the Old Testament, the Ascension of Christ and the Dormition of the Theotokos.
Well-preserved icon, entirely painted by hand with egg tempera on a wood board prepared with levkas of 39x30 cm. With a hook on the back to hang it, the icon is delivered in an elegant blue satin case with expertise by a qualified expert.
