Antique icon from Central Russia painted between the 18th and the 19th century on a wood board of 38x31 cm using egg tempera and representing the Deësis of the Theotokos. The Deësis is a traditional Orthodox representation of the Christ in Majesty flanked by the Virgin Mary (the theme of this icon) and St. John the Baptist. The Virgin is shown facing towards Christ with her hands raised in supplication on behalf of humanity.
