Original antique Russian icon of the Twelve Great Feasts with basma 30x25 cm. Icon painted on an antique board by Moscovite artists in accordance with iconographic rules of the old school of Central Russia, depicting the 12 Great Feasts of the liturgical year, displayed around Easter representation, a central scene regrouping different elements translating the theological and biblical message of Easter (Harrowing of Hell, Procession of the Blessed to Heaven, Christ's resurrection from the grave, Christ appears on the shore of Lake Tiberias). The Great Feasts are: the Nativity of the Theotokos, the Presentation of the Theotokos, the Annunciation, the Nativity of Christ, the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple, the Baptism of Christ, the Entry into Jerusalem, the Transfiguration of Jesus, the Exaltation of the Cross, the Holy Trinity of the Old Testament, the Ascension of Christ and the Dormition of the Theotokos.
This icon is one of a kind, from the 19th century, entirely painted by hand with egg tempera on an old wood board prepared with levkas and enriched with metallic basma, a sort of riza tacked onto the surface of the icon.
With a hook on the back to hang it, this icon of 30x26 cm is delivered in an elegant blue satin case with expertise by a qualified expert.
