The icon represents the apparition of the Holy Trinity to Abraham, announcing him and his wife Sarah that they will finally have a child. The three angels represents the Father of the left, Jesus in the centre and the Holy Spirit on the right, with a chalice, symbol of Christ's sacrifice, in the centre of the composition. They wear a halo, attribute that was reserved, in the traditional sacred art, to saints, angels and souls of the deceased savec in Heaven.
The colours have a remarquable symbolic importance: gold is the symbol of royalty, wore by God and partially by Jesus with his stole, symbol of his royal priesthood; red is sacrifice, wore by Jesus; green is the symbol of life, wore by the Holy Spirit; blue means eternal life, used for each of the three characters.
