Assuage My Sorrows, Russian icon, 5.5x3.9 inches. Russian icon made and painted by hand according to the rules of the Byzantine-Russian iconographic school, representing on a lindel hardwood board covered in gold leaf a faithful reproduction of the original icon of the 18th century.
The painting shows the Holy Virgin holding the Infant Jesus who seems to float on her lap since he has no support. The face of the Theotokos is characterised by closed lips and sad yet sweet eyes, turned into the inside, ready to welcome every prayer, every sorrow and every cry for help. The Holy Lady doesn't look at her Son, even if her head is slightly leaned toward him, aware that this Infant belongs to humanity and His Father.
The Infant Jesus is depicted with the features of an adult, holding an open scroll, God's Word.
On the upper part of the icon, the Greek letters on the golden background refet to Christ as "The One Who is" and the Holy Virgin as "Mother of God".Delivered in a wooden case, the icon is accompanied by a guarantee certificate and a short story of the original icon, both on the back of the painting by the hook to hang it.
